The Project

2018

In 2018, Bitinfinity found my portfolio on Google. After reviewing my work, they contacted me to lead the first major redesign of the webitcoin.com.br news portal. I took ownership of the project, becoming responsible for redefining the layout, improving usability and content perception, reducing visual clutter, optimizing SEO, and rebuilding the front-end architecture. In addition, I audited and optimized the existing WordPress back-end to ensure long-term stability.

Project issues to be solved:

  • Low traffic compared to competitors;
  • Low average session duration;
  • Domain with little or no authority.

Identified improvements:

  • Technically poorly optimized website, without caching or proper image and CSS optimization, resulting in heavy HTML pages and slow loading;
  • Confusing interface;
  • Low engagement pages;
  • SEO-poor template structure;
  • Hosting incompatible with traffic volume.

Initial Technical Restructuring

The old template relied heavily on plugins and contained excessive unnecessary database data. As a result, the platform was unstable and technically neglected.

To address this, I made the strategic decision to rebuild the foundation. I created a new WordPress instance, migrated only essential content and media, and developed a clean, lightweight template from scratch. I deliberately minimized plugin dependency to improve performance, maintainability, and security.

On the infrastructure side, I recommended migrating from shared LocaWeb hosting to a DreamHost VPS. This decision provided a scalable and performance-oriented environment while remaining aligned with the client’s budget.

As a direct consequence of these technical and strategic adjustments, organic traffic began to grow consistently. Gradually, paid advertising costs were reduced as performance improvements started delivering measurable results.

Webitcoin Channels - Satellite Sites

Since one of Bitinfinity’s partners was an influential trader with an active YouTube presence, I proposed expanding the ecosystem beyond the core portal. The idea was to build satellite platforms under the Webitcoin umbrella using subdomains to reinforce domain authority and diversify traffic acquisition.

Webitcoin TV

For Webitcoin TV, I structured and developed a fully custom WordPress template focused on video consumption and live programming. The platform allowed direct CMS publishing while also integrating YouTube live streams via the official API.

By centralizing live broadcasts within the portal’s environment, I strategically increased session duration, engagement metrics, and domain authority.

Exchange Comparison Platform

Observing the rapid growth of cryptocurrency exchanges between 2018 and 2019, I identified an opportunity to create an exchange comparison tool. I structured the platform to integrate exchange APIs and display real-time comparison tables for buy and sell rates.

Additionally, I defined deeper order book calculations to estimate the actual market value of crypto assets more accurately. This initiative strengthened Webitcoin’s positioning as not only a news portal but also a utility-driven platform.

Impact on Results

With a carefully structured new version — supported by UX research, user testing, SEO-focused information architecture, and performance-oriented infrastructure — traffic tripled within the first quarter.

This growth validated the technical and strategic decisions made throughout the project. Once the objectives were achieved and the platform reached a stable growth trajectory, my participation concluded at that stage.

The Return - New Challenges

2025

Years later, after multiple developers worked on the project, technical changes were introduced without clear standards, servers were migrated twice, and several unnecessary plugins were added. As a direct consequence, the website once again began suffering from severe performance issues. By 2024, traffic had reached its lowest levels in years.

Given this critical scenario, Bitinfinity approached me again — this time under a formal contract covering support, strategic maintenance, and implementation of new technologies. Therefore, the challenge was not only to fix technical problems, but also to restore structural efficiency and financial sustainability.

New challenges included:

  • Restoring performance to acceptable levels;
  • Recovering declining traffic;
  • Redesigning the layout to improve news visibility;
  • Reducing operational costs;
  • Strengthening security and backup policies;
  • Supporting internationalization without a team to translate over 20,000 articles.

Infrastructure Restructuring

What has been implemented so far:

1. As a first strategic move, I redesigned the infrastructure from the ground up. I migrated the project to an Ubuntu 24 VPS, updated the stack to recent versions of Nginx and PHP-FPM, and implemented Redis and OPcache for multi-layer optimization. In addition, I configured Cloudflare with edge-level firewall protection, activated Bunny CDN, and structured automated daily backups.

As a result of this new architecture, server stability improved significantly, processing load decreased, and response times became noticeably faster.

AI-Driven Automation

2. In parallel, I identified content production as a major operational cost driver. Consequently, I proposed integrating AI-assisted workflows into the editorial process. Using automated agents built with N8N, I structured a sequential system: first, an agent responsible for drafting the article; then, a second agent optimizing the content for SEO; finally, additional agents handling snippets, categorization, tagging, and image prompt generation.

Through this architecture, we began publishing dozens of news articles daily, with a maximum delay of approximately one hour after the first relevant event. As a direct outcome, editorial costs were significantly reduced while human moderators remained responsible for quality control and fact verification.

Technical Optimization & Internationalization

3. Beyond infrastructure and automation, I conducted a deep technical cleanup. I removed unnecessary plugins, reviewed critical code sections, corrected accumulated inconsistencies, and strengthened structural components. Consequently, the platform became lighter, more organized, and more secure.

At the same time, aiming for international expansion while respecting budget constraints, I integrated Google Translate’s free translation bar directly into the layout in a discreet and functional manner. Thus, the portal gained multi-language support without compromising user experience or increasing operational costs.

Results So Far

The results reflect consistent technical decision-making and strategically aligned execution.

After reaching its lowest performance in 2024, the portal surpassed all previous results in less than a year. Since then, growth has returned in a consistent and sustainable trajectory — with further expansion still ahead.
